How to Plant Dekopon Seeds
Step 1: Preparing the Seeds
1. Extract & Clean the Seeds
• Remove the seeds from the fruit and wash off any pulp under running water.
• Let them air dry for a few hours on a paper towel.
2. Soak the Seeds (Optional but recommended)
• Soak the seeds in lukewarm water for 24 hours to help with germination.
Step 2: Choosing the Right Soil & Pot
1. Soil
• Use a well-draining soil mix, such as:
• 50% potting soil
• 30% sand or perlite
• 20% compost
2. Pot Selection
• Choose a small pot (4-6 inches deep) with drainage holes.
Step 3: Planting the Seeds
1. Fill the pot with moist soil.
2. Plant each seed ½ inch (1.3 cm) deep.
3. Lightly cover with soil and gently press down.
4. Water the soil lightly but avoid overwatering.
Step 4: Providing the Right Conditions
1. Temperature: Keep in a warm place (21-27°C / 70-80°F).
2. Light: Place the pot in bright indirect sunlight until germination.
3. Moisture: Cover the pot with plastic wrap or a humidity dome to retain moisture.
Step 5: Germination & Early Care
• Seeds will germinate in 2-6 weeks.
• Once seedlings appear, remove the plastic cover and place in direct sunlight for 6-8 hours daily.
• Water only when the top 1 inch of soil feels dry.
Step 6: Transplanting & Growth
1. When seedlings are 4-6 inches tall, transplant them into larger pots or outdoor soil.
2. Keep them in a warm, sunny location.
3. Apply citrus fertilizer every 4-6 weeks for healthy growth.
Step 7: Long-Term Care & Fruit Production
- • Seed-grown trees may take 2-3 years to bear fruit.
