Presented here today is a magnificent early 20th century green onyx mantle clock by Ansonia Clock Co. the wonderful open escapement is encased by a fine perfect porcelain Roman numeral wheel. The inner most component is also porcelain.
This clock sat on my grandparent’s mantle for at least the 65 years I remember. The clock is substantial at nearly 22 pounds.
This clock is all original even with the original Brooklyn NY jeweler’s card affixed to the underside.
The bevel glass and gilded frame is hinged and is perfect.
The onyx panels are gorgeous with multicolor vanes of cream and orange. The onyx stone panels have natural fissions, hairline veins and imperfections but there are no signs as I see it of any repairs Some early chips on the edges are evident-see photos.
This is an eight-day clock with chimes at the half hour and hour. Currently does not run. The original pendulum and key are included. The clock should be serviced to run again. When forwarding the minute hand the chime still strikes out the correct time.
The clock dimensions are 12 5/8 inches wide by 10 1/8 inches tall by 5 inches deep.
