Why is this an essential piece of kit? 

Imagine you are camping and decide to take a long evening walk before dark. You planned to return before dark so dressed lightly and didn’t pack many pieces of kit. After a few miles walking downstream, you slip smashing your leg upon impact. Realising the sun is starting to set and the temperature drop, all you have on you is the survival bracelet.

After assessing the situation, and deciding walking back is too risky in the dark, especially with a badly injured leg you decide to stay put. With the temperature dropping fire is essential. After sourcing some fuel, you use your included Ferro rod and cord as tinder to get a fire started. With the remaining cord, you create a basic lean-to shelter and hang up your wet clothes for drying. 

Then, using the cord and a piece of straight wood you create a leg splint for your leg and using the whistle reveal your location to anyone who might be looking. If no one comes to your rescue, you follow the river back to camp with the aid of your compass.
