The Soladey 5 has been made with a special TiO2 (titanium dioxide) semiconductor and solar panel. Using light and water, this toothbrush creates electrons when brushing, which removes plaque buildup.
Developed in Japan, we want to bring this toothbrush to people all over the world, so we look to Kickstarter to do so, and by bringing our toothbrush to you we hope that you can experience the next step in oral care. For this project we have also developed a new brush head, which is more in line with international products, and we hope that you can enjoy and experience the Soladey 5, which is now even more effective!
Here at Shiken, our goal as an oral care products maker is the protection of people’s dental health, and by doing so enriching their lives. We have been making the Soladey brand, as well as improving, and marketing it for the past 40 years. This time, we would like to bring to you the future of the Soladey series, the Soladey 5!

The Soladey toothbrush is a new type of toothbrush that uses light and water to help brush your teeth!
The light (be it from indoor light or sunlight) and water reacts with the technology, creating negatively charged electrons.
These electrons work when you brush to help remove plaque.
The cleaned teeth help to keep S.mutans (cavity causing bacteria) away!
As this is something that you will use everyday, a lot of thought has gone into the functionality of the toothbrush, as well as the design.
For Kickstarter we are launching with a whole new type of brush head that works with the Soladey 5! This brush head features antibacterial filaments that are twisted with silver ions and charcoal that has been produced from Ubame oak (also known as binchotan).
Until now, the Soladey brand has carried on for 40 years, and over that time, we have sold more than 16.2 million units!
Thanks to brand recognition and trust that has been put in us, we have been able to successfully crowdfund various models on the Japanese crowdfunding site, Makuake, three times. These models include a sonic vibrating type, as well as a manual brushing type of toothbrush.
Our toothbrushes are made to last forever! The brush heads can be changed out, and the body of the brush is made of stainless steel! Compared to other brushes our brush is extremely different!

Made using stainless steel, AS Resin, and ABS Resin, which have been all molded together to make the brush stronger and more resistant to breaking, combined with the TiO₂ semiconductor and solar panel which are also made to be used for a long time, you can use this toothbrush for years to come! Just replace the brush roughly once a month, and you can have smooth feeling teeth everyday for years to come!
The toothbrush comes with a Built-in TiO₂ Semiconductor and Solar Panel. They react to water and light and emit electrons.
The SOLADEY uses in-house patent technology, which makes use of a TiO2 Semiconductor and a solar panel, which emits electrons when you brush your teeth in a bright place. These electrons are then transferred through your saliva and other moisture in the mouth. They help to remove plaque and make your teeth smooth.
①In the grip of the brush, a solar panel is inserted, which when light hits it, electrons are emitted. Combined with the semiconductor that is found where the brush head sits, which when exposed to water and light, emits even more electrons.
②As you brush your teeth, and your mouth gets wet with water from the brush as well as saliva, the electrons are able to pass through the brush, and interact with the plaque, removing it from your teeth.
③What’s more, the electrons on the teeth are charged, and this helps to repel S.mutans (cavity-causing bacteria) which have the same charge, meaning that the teeth are more protected, while being smooth to run your tongue over!
④By using the power of electrons, we have taken the next step in oral hygiene. That’s why we recommend the SOLADEY Series!
We took general use brushes and put them up against our own brushes, soaking them in S. mutans for 3 minutes, and then incubated them on an agar medium for 48 hours. The S.mutans on the general use brush was observed to show growth, while our brush showed that it sterilized the cavity-causing bacteria!

We also conducted a test to check the effect the brush has on the adhesiveness of S.mutans on teeth that have been brushed with the Soladey. This was done using apatite plates which have the same crystal structure as teeth. A general toothbrush and one of our toothbrushes were brushed against a medium which contained S.mutans, and then incubated at 37°C, the same as the body temperature of humans, and this was done for 12 hours. The results showed that the general toothbrush was covered with bacteria, while our SOLADEY brush had none. With that we can confirm that our toothbrush suppresses the adhesivity of the cavity-causing bacteria.

The amount of plaque adhesion was measured after use for 4 weeks. The amount of plaque that remained using a general sale brush was almost unchanged after 4 weeks, but after using the SOLADEY brush, there was a 42.7% reduction!

The silver ions and charcoal is threaded into the filaments on the brush, which makes it antibacterial, which helps to reduce the growth of bacteria when stored. Two filaments are twisted into one in a spiral pattern, which means that the filaments are more elastic, which in turn makes the brush more comfortable to brush with. The indents on the filaments also help to trap plaque. The ultra fine filaments have a tip of about 0.02mm, meaning they can get into thin crevices in the tooth to remove dirt.
The thin head and incline of the brush allows for better brushing. With a four row wide head, the brush is densely packed, making it easy to remove plaque and stains on the surface of the tooth.
The silver ions and charcoal is threaded into the hexagonal cross section of the brush, which makes the brush itself antibacterial, which helps to reduce the growth of bacteria when stored.
The thin tip point bristle allows you to get to the hard to reach areas of your mouth. The convex shape of the tip allows you to get into the grooves meaning that you will experience better cleaning.
The Soladey series is made so that only the brush head needs to be changed, making it kind to the environment as we reduce the waste product made. Our toothbrush was the first toothbrush in Japan to receive the ECO Mark Certification.
A lot of thought has been put into the design of the toothbrush, which has resulted in a form that has a careful balance of curves and ellipses. The final result is a beautifully designed toothbrush made to fit perfectly between your fingers.
The Soladey series can be used anywhere anytime, as long as you have access to light and water. The electrons will help to support your tooth brushing endeavours. You can use the brush not only at home, but also when you go to the office after you’ve eaten lunch, or even when you go on trips or even camping! You can easily get a wonderful smooth feeling for your teeth no matter where you are!

In order to get the design that we landed on for the Soladey toothbrush, we had to test and trial over 2000 different prototypes. It was a struggle for us to get to the design that had all the functionality while being a form that we were happy with.
The tooth brush is something that you will use everyday, so we want to make sure the design of the brush makes it easy to use. We also wanted to make sure that the colour was something to everyone’s liking. As we found the right balance between functionality and design, the SOLADEY 5 was born.

③Use a well lit mirror or wash basin and brush well.
First, we want you to experience how good it feels to brush just with water with the Soladey 5. Just using water, you will be surprised that your teeth will feel extremely smooth. Even after you wake up in the morning, you will feel them still being smooth, and you will find that brushing your teeth and caring for them isn’t a hassle any more.
You can of course also use your favorite toothpaste.
We recommend that you use a pen grip style of holding the brush. This has the advantage of giving you more finesse when brushing your teeth, just like you would when you are holding a pen to write, or maybe using chopsticks. This is also recommended by dentists. As people have mouths of different shapes and sizes, you can brush without any problem doing so.
