Please note that an engine fitted with a piston ring will require warming up to operate efficiently - just like a car. When these engines are turned over at room temperature they may appear to have lower compression than a similar ABC engines. When it’s up to normal operating temperature the aluminium piston will have expanded slightly more than the steel liner which expands the ring very slightly, which gives a good seal. It also help when starting - Very cold ABC engines are renowned for being very tight and sometimes need heating up to be able to be turned over TDC, you don’t get this with a ring engine.
