"Pyotr Velikiy" is a heavy nuclear-powered missile cruiser of the Russian Navy. The fourth and only ship of Project 1144.2 "Orlan" in service.

The cruiser was laid down on March 11, 1986 on the slipway of the Baltic Shipyard (at the time of laying it was called "Kuibyshev", then - "Yuri Andropov"). On April 29, 1989, it was launched. Renamed "Pyotr Velikiy" by decree of the President of the Russian Federation Boris Yeltsin.

"Pyotr Velikiy" was created as a means of nuclear deterrence and cover for submarines with ballistic missiles. When the nuclear cruiser was named "Yuri Andropov", it had the side number 183, but on April 22, 1992 it was named "Pyotr Velikiy", and received the side number - 099 in 1998 after sea trials and commissioning.

According to the plans of the Ministry of Defense, the cruiser should undergo repairs and a major modernization in 2019-2022.

On June 14, 2023, a message appeared that the cruiser would be decommissioned, on July 7, 2023, this information was denied by a source of the Northern Fleet
