Condition: My aim
is to grade conservatively. Listed below are grades and their corresponding
meaning that I use in the item description and/or title:
Like New/ Very Fine (VF) Just like it sounds. A
brand-new, unused copy in perfect condition.
Fine (F) An apparently unread copy in perfect
condition. Dust cover is intact and without tears or chips. Pages are clean but
may have the slightest bit of toning on the edges and are unmarred by notes or
folds of any kind. Suitable for presenting as a gift. May show remainer marks.
Spine may be very slightly sunned. Older books may show light foxing on the
pages. Newer books may show one or two very
minor flaws. Such as would be expected if taking a book in out of a
bookshelf.
Near Fine (NF) A minor flaw or two may be present.
Very Good (VG) Shows some signs of wear and is no
longer fresh, but contains no stains. Attractive. Cover may have some very
light scuff marks, rubbing or a small inconspicuous chip. End pages may have a
small inscription to denote owner. A copy that has been read, but remains in
excellent condition. Pages are intact with no folds, edges may be noticeably
toned but not enough to be a distraction. Also pages are not marred by notes or
highlighting. May have some light foxing. The spine is tight and remains
undamaged though may be noticeably sunned. Hinge remains uncracked. Dust cover,
if applicable, is intact but may have a couple of very small tears.
Very Good/Good (VG/G) May have a few pages or cover
slightly bent or dog-eared. Spine may be very slightly bumped. May have more
than one chip off of dustcover.
Good (G) A copy that has been read, but remains in
clean condition. All pages are intact. It may have very noticeable toning or
foxing that is distracting. The cover is intact though may have bumped edges
but no fraying. Dust cover is intact but may have some noticeable tears, chips,
creases, rub marks or scratches. The spine may show signs of wear (creases,
very sunned or corners severely bumped). Pages can include “From The Library
of. . .” label or other inscriptions. Can have a loose binding, cracked hinge
or cocked spine. May be slightly stained.
Acceptable/Readable/Fair All pages are intact. Cover
is intact but edges may be bumped or frayed. The dust cover may be missing.
Pages can include considerable notes-in pen or highlighter, but the notes
cannot obscure the text. It may be without endpapers or title page. May be
noticeably stained or have a trace of mold.
Poor/Unacceptable Pages may be moldy, badly stained,
or text may be marred by pen. Spine is ready to come apart. Some pages may be
missing.
