The Freelander has always had a problem with ird/transfer box, common symptons of failure are when on full lock, loud knocks can be heard giving front tyre wear, poor fuel economy and noise when decelerating.
Most freelander owners dont go off roading so the perfect cheap solution in to convert to 2 wheel drive for road use saving thousands on repair bills as a refurbished IRD can vary between £600 and £1000!.
