This is a rare promotional set of Shadowgraph 3-D Glasses with a demonstration card distributed to those attending the Original Broadway production of the Eighteenth Annual Edition of the "ZIEGFELD FOLLIES" ("Glorifying the American Girl") at the New Amsterdam Theatre in New York City. (The production opened October 20th, 1923 and ran for 233 performances.) ..... The "ZIEGFELD FOLLIES" were the most lavish musical productions on Broadway between 1907 and 1931. Blending beauty, music and talent with over 100 graceful and elegant "Ziegfeld Girls" in priceless gowns, jewels and flowers, audiences knew they would be treated to the most memorable evening possible. The key to the ongoing success of the "Follies", even in the worst of times was producer FLORENZ ZIEGFELD, Jr. ..... The cast of the Eighteenth Edition included FANNY BRICE, PAUL WHITEMAN and his ORCHESTRA, CECILIA LOFTUS, LINA BASQUETTE, BROOKE JOHNS, ANN PENNINGTON, ROBERT QUINAULT, IRIS ROWE, LAURENS HAMMOND, ALEXANDER YAKOVLEFF, EDNA LEEDOM, DAVE STAMPER, HILDA FERGUSON, WILLIAM ROSELLE, JACK NORTON, JAMES J. CORBETT, MAE DAW, BERT WHEELER and BETTY WHEELER, FLORENTINE GOSNOVA, MARY JANE WILKERSON, ROY CROPPER, BERNICE AKERMAN and THE EMPIRE GIRLS ..... Side note: The 3-D glasses were used to view the Shadowgraph sequence in Scene 7 of Act 2. The Optical Illusion was created by LAURENS HAMMOND ..... DETAILS: The demonstration card measures 5 1/4" X 8" inches and includes a "Ziegfeld Follies" image and instructions for using the glasses. The backside is blank. The Shadowgraph 3-D Glasses measure approx. 5 1/2" X 2 1/4" inches and also includes the "Ziegfeld Follies" logo ..... CONDITION: With the exception of a minor rust mark on both items from a paper clip indentation and moderate edge wear, this rare set is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian.
