This is a rare Easter week 1948 programme (playbill) from the one-week, Provincial Tour engagement of the BRANDON THOMAS comedy "CHARLEY'S AUNT" at the Davis Theatre in Croydon, South London. (This revival opened December 24th, 1947 at London's Palace Theatre before going on tour.) ..... The play starred PHILIP DALE as "Lord Fancourt Babberley" and the cast included JOHN HUSON, MICHAEL LOGAN, NICHOLAS PARSONS, RICHARD BUTLER, FRANCIS DRAKE, DOROTHY BATLEY, PATRICIA CUTTS, ALISON PETRIE and DAPHNIE ATHERTON ..... Side Note: The Original London production premiered in February 1892 at the Theatre Royal, Bury St. Edmonds, England. It later opened on December 21st, 1892 at London's Royalty Theatre, transferred on January 30th, 1893 to the larger Globe Theatre and ran for 1466 performances. Continually revived in Britain and elsewhere, "Charley's Aunt" was performed in London at Christmas every year from 1904 to 1930 (excepting 1906 and 1927) ..... Despite these flaws, this rare playbill will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
