For sale is a very rare 1927 Boston Bruins program cover for their December 6th game against the Canadiens, held at the Boston Arena on St. Botolph the year before the Boston Garden opened. The main piece measures about 6" by 9.25" - this was taken from a 1920s-1930s scrapbook along with the roster piece shown. Printed in black with a red border, this features an early Bruin depiction prominently in the top left quarter of the piece.
The roster is fairly impressive and includes ten Hall of famers, five for the Bruins (Harry Oliver, Eddie Shore, Frank Fredrickson, Dit Clapper, and Sprague Cleghorn) and five for the Canadiens (Howie Morenz, Aurele Joliat, Sylvio Mantha, Herb Gardiner, and George Hainsworth) - bolded names are also considered top 100 NHL players.
Fair condition as shown, sale is for the exact pieces appearing in the photos and includes the front page of the program and a cut-out of the roster. Cover is creased vertically down the middle along with some lesser creases at corners and general crinkling to paper. Some discoloration to piece, mostly to the top edge areas and especially at the reverse where this was originally adhered to a scrapbook page. There is a note from the original owner/attendee written on the front with pen in cursive, it appears to read, "John Ryan Peg & Bill Clark, The "nite" John lost the dinner checks". Some staining from the adhesive is still visible along with some minor loss of material on the reverse from removal as shown. Please review all pictures carefully for best sense of condition and please let me know if you have any questions prior to purchase.
I have a few other related Boston area sports ephemera pieces from the 1920s and 1930s (magazines, tickets, programs) available/soon to be available in separate eBay postings including amateur, college, and professional sports that came from the same collection. Please let me know if you are interested in a combined purchase.
