Are We There Yet? by Gregory Huff

Origin:
The artist created this work in 2003 to emphasize how the Statue of Liberty was originally inspired by the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. While creating this work, the artist listened to musical compositions he believed would help create the mood that he was looking to capture in the work. The energy of the music went into the work. He places this work alongside other works of art such as Ester Hernandez's Sun Mad, and it pays homage to the black fist raised in power. The title poses a question for the viewer to ponder while looking at the image: "Are we there yet?"

Technique:
First, an image in drawn on drawing paper. Next, the image is transferred by tracing onto a sheet of scratchboard, which is specially treated paper that has been coated with black ink. Then a tool with a sharp point is used to scratch the drawing onto the scratchboard surface.

About Giclee:

Each image is scanned into the computer, corrected and balanced, then reproduced using the giclee method.  Do not expose your giclee to direct sunlight/heat or prolonged damp/humid conditions.
