Title: Vintage Japanese Celadon Glazed Porcelain Bowl. Edo Period, Late 19th C.

Overview: An exquisite Japanese Celadon glazed porcelain bowl, Late Edo period, made in the blue and white style, in which the design was painted on the white surface in cobalt blue and then the bowl was covered in a transparent glaze. This bowl was covered in a celadon glaze giving the vessel a soft green color.

Description: The bowl was delicately hand potted of conical form with flared wide mouth and rounded sides rising from a short foot. The exterior covered in a celadon glaze of pale sea-green color, thinning to the natural bisque tone at the rim. The interior of the bowl was covered in a transparent ‘Nuka’ glaze, as is the concave bottom, which is decorated with the Artisan’s mark hand painted in underglazed blue. The bowl displays a slightly irregular form, with a peppered effect on the bowl’s interior from the type of ash glaze used.
