Back
in the very early 2000’s (exact date lost to my poor memory), the San Francisco
Art Exchange on Geary Street played host to Boris Vallejo’s art; both originals
and prints. They had a gorgeous display
and it was a feast for the eyes to actually see the paintings in person. So far as I know, this was the only art
gallery to ever publicly display his work and offer it retail. (Interesting
note, the gallery space was shared with a display of Vargas’ work at the same
time.)
This
auction includes two letters from the Art Exchange; one announcing “…an
exclusive relationship” with Vallejo and the other lists three new limited
edition prints with descriptions. There
are also three 35mm pictures of those three prints being offered for sale. Interesting enough, two of the titles are
different in the book titled “Dreams” published in 1999…. At the gallery, one
was titled “Emerald Garden” but titled “Mountain Garden” in the book. At the gallery, one was titled Message of Hope”
but titled “Messenger of Hope” in the book.
The third one was titled “The Bearer of the Egg” at the gallery and I
was unable to find that image in any of my books so I don’t know about that
one.
I included a pinback button that I acquired somewhere. It measures approx 2.25" in diameter and is in fine condition. I never displayed it.
This
is a unique bit of Boris Vallejo ephemera for a dedicated collector.
I also have their 2014 calendar for sale in my store.
