Nintendo DS Lite Replacement Top Screen With Speakers

This is a replacement screen for your Nintendo DS Lite that has the speakers already soldered. Each screen is tested immediately before shipping. Details below further elaborate my testing process and what to watch for in regards to issues with your original screen. Beware that most drop-shippers do not test screens and batches of replacement screens often have a high defect rate. I test beforehand to save you hassle and expense of installing a screen just to find it doesn't work. Buy more than 1 screen to receive an automatic discount.

Common Screen Issues

These are issues I often see with original screens. If you are experiencing these issues, you must replace the screen to fix it.

Other Less Common Issues

If there is no audio at all, there may be debris stuck in the headphone jack, which can be easily fixed. Before you try replacing the screen, try cleaning out the headphone jack by inserting a pair of headphones about 10-20 times. This can sometimes clear debris.

LCD Backlight Color Tone

Backlight color tone is the color of the display backlight. For example, Apple's "truetone" technology dynamically changes the color of the display backlight depending on ambient conditions. In a DS screen, the backlight tone is constant and cannot change. I've noticed that some Nintendo screens have a warm tone backlight and others have a cool tone backlight. Warm tone appears more yellow (not to be confused with an aged backlight diffuser) whereas a cool tone backlight appears more blueish. All aftermarket screens (top and bottom) I have seen for these consoles are warm in tone. To ensure you have a matching backlight color tone on both the top and bottom screen, it is recommended to replace both the top and bottom screen. This ensures the same color tone across both screens. Mismatched backlight tone is NOT a defect but something to consider if you care to match the backlight tone. If you don't know what tone your display backlight is, please send me a picture of your console powered on. Nintendo has not produced parts for this console in a decade so your only option is buying used or a new aftermarket (I sell both).

Testing Process

I plugin the screen to a test rig and ensure the console powers on with audio and no artifacts on the screen. I use a LCD tester program to flash different colors on the screen to reveal any stuck pixels. Note: after 1/6/2025, testing process has been updated and screens with minimal stuck pixels (fewer than 2 per screen) will pass testing. It is recommended to test the screen once received before installing to see if the screen was damaged in shipping. Please do not open returns for a screen that you damaged while installing. If you prefer, I have a repair listing where I can replace the screen for you.

How to Install

You'll need to transfer the colored bezel over from your old screen. Do this by pinching the adhesive on the bottom right corner of the screen and carefully pulling up; the bezel should come up with the adhesive in a single piece. Use the top shell piece as a guide for reassembly.

Please be aware the speaker wire connections are fragile, and if not handled gently, the speakers can rip off. If your screen arrives with the speakers disconnected, contact me so we can arrange a repair.

Returns

All screens are tested to be functional before shipping. Defective returns are only considered for screens that have not been installed. Please test the screen before installing. Non-working screens returned after install will not receive a refund due to the risk of damage while installing.

To test the screen before installing, plugin the top screen, bottom screen, and wifi card. Then, hold the battery to the terminals with the logo facing outward. The console will be able to power on. Be mindful to have the battery oriented correctly or it will destroy the fuse on the motherboard.
