1984-1986 Pontiac Fiero headlight motor repair kit

This kit repairs one (1) headlight motor left or right side. If you need to repair both sides, then please select a quantity of two (2) items. You will receive a volume discount for two or more items. 

This kit includes:

4- Green urethane gear bumpers/insulators

8- Stainless steel nuts and bolts to replace the drilled-out rivets in the case.

3- Limit switch cover screws

1- Output shaft O-ring

1- Nut (for the output shaft to linkage attachment)

2- Blister packs of synthetic grease. 

1- Hard copy of the instructions. 

This kit with the firmer green urethane gear bumpers will usually repair the infamous "click of death" problem that plagues many Fiero owners after rebuilding these motors. The firmer urethane bumpers help these thirty plus year old motors activate the internal limit switch much better than the soft rubber bumpers that are sold by other venders. 

This kit is also for those of us who want to do preventative maintenance on our 1984-1986 Pontiac Fiero headlight motors. It includes everything needed to open up your OEM headlight motor and replace the rubber insulators inside the drive gear which tend to fail with age and then destroy the OEM nylon gear. Unless you Fiero is a garage queen that never leaves the garage, there is a strong likelihood that your original bumpers inside the gear have already failed, and it is only a matter of time until your original drive gear is destroyed. If your headlights quickly drop half-way down as soon as you turn off the headlight switch, then your original green bumpers are already gone. If caught in time this kit will save you the expense of replacing the OEM plastic gear with an aluminum or brass gear which is the only long-term fix when your gear strips off some teeth. FYI: ALL of the aftermarket replacement plastic gears currently available are JUNK and will not last 6 months in a daily driven Fiero. Your OEM gear is much stronger even after 30 plus years. 

As a bonus I will also include two blister packs of high-quality synthetic grease. This is the same high quality OEM grease that I use when rebuilding headlight motors for my customers. This is the correct grease for this application and is the same grease that was originally used when your headlight motor was manufactured. This grease has a high film strength, so it stays put and won't run or melt with an effective operating temperature from -20 degrees to +600 degrees.  WARNING! Beware other sellers passing off wheel bearing grease as "GM Approved" for this application. Any grease that will flow or break down over time is wrong for this application and will eventually fowl your brushes causing failure! Trust me I have seen this first-hand.
