This is a Wonderful 1923 Antique book - American Poetry , edited with introduction, notes, questions, and biographical sketches by A.B. De Mille, Simmons College, Boston. Copyright 1923 by Allyn and Bacon DAI. Printed in the United States by The Berwick & Smith Co. 339 pages with index at end. Measures 6 ¾” tall and 4 ½” wide. Has name written on inside front cover – Myrtle Mayers. Also included is a cool illustrated bookmark that was in the book that has a poem called ‘Trees” by Joyce Kilmer - on page 242 that has a beautiful black and white photograph of an old tree (bookmark compliments of Nature Magazine - written on back). Other pencil writing and some underlining in book. Introduction – The Study of Poetry “ Poetry is written to be enjoyed. But to be enjoyed it must first be understood, and to understand and enjoy poetry we should know something of its principles. These are not new; they have developed during the centuries through the practice of great writers who have set forth in beautiful words their thoughts about nature and human life.
