a carved wooden ancestor figure, known as
Kandimbong or Kandimboag
made by the Sepik or Ramu peoples
from lower the Sepik or Ramu river basin on Papua New Guinea,
age unknown - but we believe it to be pre 1940,
very competently carved, no guile, but a respectable and honest statue, no false beauty, patine or age
it shows a standing figure on a cylindrical plinth,
with a towering headdress and a long hooked nose,
scarifications on the chest - taganap sigia - and shoulders,
around the upper arms and ankles carving, probably representing plaited bracelets and anklets, only worn by initiated men,
the delicate linear decorations, in a composition of curved lines, some as pointed ovals and butterflies, will certainly represent a certain clan's motiv
