The whole world remembers Bobby Fischer; the chess world fondly remembers Bent Larsen, one of his rivals for the title "Best Player of the Western World," as opposed to the Communist Bloc. Larsen came from Denmark, and learned to play chess during a series of childhood illnesses that confined him to bed. After a year college and two years in the Danish army, he became a full-time chess professional. For a period during 1960s he could legitimately claim to be the best player in the world, as he won a long series of tournaments, from the Sousse Interzonal of 1967 to his performance against Boris Spassky in the USSR v. the World Match.  

Here is his own selection of his best games from 1948 to 1968. This is the McKay/ U.S. edition, not the Bell/ U.K. edition.   He annotated the games himself.  I, Ed Yetman, a master with the International Correspondence Chess Federation, wrote a handful of monographs to cover some other areas of Larsen's great life. There are two "Clash of Titans" monographs, one covering his long rivalry with Mikhail Tal, the other his collisions with Bobby Fischer.
