What is Travelan?
Travelan is a natural product, specifically designed to reduce the risk of infection by Enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC), the most common cause of Travellers’ Diarrhoea. Travelan's active ingredient is Bovine Colostrum Powder, a rich source of antibodies that bind to ETEC in the gastrointestinal tract, preventing them from attaching to the intestinal wall and thereby neutralising their ability to cause TD and its associated symptoms.
Travelan has undergone independent double-blinded, placebo-controlled clinical trials in Europe and the USA. The trials showed protection of up to 90% against infection with the type of E.coli that causes TD. In addition trials showed a significant reduction in abdominal cramps and stomach pain compared to those who did not receive Travelan. There were no reported side effects in the clinical trials.
What is Travellers’ Diarrhea?
Travellers' Diarrhoea (TD) also known as Bali Belly or Delhi Belly is a result of ingesting contaminated food and/or water. It is the most common illness affecting international travellers.
Where should I take Travelan?
Any country other than that where you normally live can be a potential infection threat.
Some areas are a higher risk to travellers such as South and Central America, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and the Indian sub-continent. Areas with poor sanitation - in particular regarding water supply are especially high-risk.
How do I take Travelan?
Take one Travelan caplet immediately before every meal (usually three times a day). Travelan should be used as an adjunct to normal travel hygiene practices: such as “Boil it, cook it, peel it.”
It will also work when taken soon after food or drink. Additional caplets may be taken when increased cover is required, eg. when snacking between meals or if circumstances suggest an increased risk of infection.
Tips for Staying Healthy
- Washing your hands often, especially before eating
- Avoiding eating from street kiosks
- Use only bottled water for drinking and brushing teeth
- Avoid salads and other uncooked food
