This 'Buy it Now' is for a Hornby R8205 Live Steam Controller X5040. I am not including a Transformer X5039.

I have tested this controller by connecting it to a live steam transformer (not included). The needle on the voltage dial then swings around to 15-17 volts, then after about 10 seconds the controller emits a high pitched beep and switches off. This is apparently what it will do if it is not connected to track with a live steam locomotive on it. I have been told that this is because no current is being drawn. I have also moved the forward and reverse lever right and left and checked that the green lights come on when the lever is moved in the direction of the green light, but I cannot test it further than that because I don't have a Live Steam set-up. If you need any more information, please ask, and if I can help, then I will, but not having a Live Steam set-up will restrict what I can tell you. I am not including any cables, just the controller.

I have been told that one of the main reasons for there being an issue with the controller is that a little ball bearing and spring get dislodged from part of the internal mechanism, and end up loose in the controller. The ball bearing and or/spring can then be heard rattling about. If I come across one like this then I will not send it to you.

I understand that the main reason why people 'fall out' with Live Steam is nothing to do with whether or not the system actually works, but they find it a bit complicated and simply give up and blame the controller...
