We use black tea and sugar to grow our kombucha cultures.
All of our SCOBYs are grown individually in glass jars, not mass-produced or grown in bulk containers. Each SCOBY is picked and packed fresh at the time of shipment — never sitting around in packaging.
You only need one properly sized SCOBY to successfully brew kombucha at home. A very large SCOBY is not necessary, and the finished tea will taste the same as store-bought kombucha. I’ve been making kombucha long before it became widely popular.

To achieve the best results, we recommend the following sizes:
Quart: (1) 3–4 inch SCOBY
Half Gallon: (2) 3–4 inch SCOBYs
Gallon: (3) 3–4 inch SCOBYs

Not all SCOBYs are created equal — we focus on quality and consistency.
In colder weather, SCOBYs may take longer to activate and produce
Brewing kombucha requires patience and time; the process cannot be rushed
Tea in photos may appear darker than what you receive due to variations in tea strength, tannins, lighting, and screen settings
