KV-9 Soviet Heavy Tank WWII
KV -- Soviet tank Kliment Voroshilov WWII
The KV-9 is a Soviet prototype heavy tank from World War II. The only two prototypes of this vehicle were created in 1942 – the vehicle never entered mass production. The combat weight of the vehicle was 47 tons. The vehicle's armament consisted of a single 122 mm U-11 howitzer and three 7.62 mm DT machine guns. The drive was provided by a single 600 hp engine. The KV-9 was designed as a development version of the KV-1 tank, and work on it began in late 1941. It was assumed that the new vehicle would be a universal vehicle, capable of destroying both enemy strongpoints and their armored vehicles – especially tanks. The KV-9, compared to its original, differed primarily in the changed shape of the turret, a completely different and much more powerful main armament, and reinforced armor, especially at the front of the vehicle. Although the vehicle successfully passed field tests in early 1942, it was not put into series production.
