in the northwestern corner of mohave county arizona is a dry wash...this wash is lined by basalt laid down by long ago volcanic eruptions...thru out this basaltic layer are numerous stringers and small pockets of travertine , onyx and druzy quartz bonded together to create a unique mix of colors and textures...cave bacon, stalactites , stalagmites and curtain or drapery wall formations can be found in these small pockets....these are formed as the calcium carbonate and mineral rich waters trickle down thru the layers in the basalt and after losing the carbon dioxide leave thin laminated layers which then combine to form the flowstone deposits.... the flowstone curtainwall formation that you see here measures 2 3/4" long and 2.9 ounces and has great detail and is an excellent cabinet specimen... no cave or cavern system has been harmed or collected from.
