🧼 How to Make Melt & Pour Soap

Making melt and pour soap is a quick and easy process: chop your soap base, heat it gently until liquid, and then add colour and scent before pouring it into a mould. You do not need to handle harsh lye, and the soap is ready to use as soon as it cools and hardens.

🛠️ What You Need:

(Instructions apply to Clear or White bases. If remelting coloured or fragranced bases, be careful when adding extra colour/fragrance).

Soap Base: Melt & pour soap base
Prep Tools: Cutting board, sharp kitchen knife
Melting Gear: Heat-safe measuring cup/bowl (microwave-safe glass or silicone) & microwave or double boiler
Additives: Skin-safe colorants (mica powder, liquid soap dye, or colour blocks) & skin-safe fragrance/essential oils
Finishing Tools: Soap mould & spray bottle with isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol (if no alcohol, carefully drag bubbles off the top with a teaspoon)

📋 Step-by-Step Instructions:

Chop the Base: Cut your soap base into small, even cubes (about 1–2 cm) to help it melt smoothly and quickly.
Melt the Soap: Place the cubes into your heat-safe bowl and heat in the microwave using 30-second bursts, stirring in between, until completely liquid. Do not let it boil or overheat past 160°F (71°C), as burning ruins the base.
Add Colour & Scent: Stir in a small amount of your chosen colorant until fully blended, then add your skin-safe fragrance or essential oil (typically 1–3 teaspoons per pound of base) and mix well for 30 seconds.
Pour into Moulds: Carefully pour the liquid soap into your silicone mould or similar container.
Remove Bubbles: Lightly spritz the top surface of the wet soap with your rubbing alcohol spray to instantly pop any unsightly air bubbles.
Cool & Set: Let the soap sit undisturbed at room temperature for 2 to 6 hours until it is completely hard.
Unmould & Store: Gently pull the sides of the silicone mould away to release your soap bars. Wrap them tightly in plastic wrap right away to prevent moisture from creating sticky droplets ("glycerine dew") on the surface.
