How to Make Paper Costumes: A 1920s Guide for Making 60 Vintage
Costumes and Accessories
by Dennison Manufacturing Co., edited by Bramcost Publications

Book Details

Originally published in 1925, this book will guide you through the creation of 60 different paper costumes including:

Instructions for accessories are also included:

There are two ways to make the costumes -- the slip over style which is worn like an apron over your own clothing and the cloth foundation method where you glue or sew crepe to the simple cloth foundation. Instructions for working with crepe including sewing guidelines, wrapping wires, wiring petals and leaves and making rose petals, strips of petals, pompons, fluted edges, fringe, crushed and crinkled effects are all detailed.

During the first half of the 20th century, Dennison Manufacturing Company produced a wide range of paper products including tags, boxes, holiday goods, crepe paper, seals and labels. In addition to their paper products, Dennison printed idea books for their customers, including gala and party books as well as seven costume books, like the one here. The costume books are perfect for Halloween celebrations, school plays and local theater groups for their inexpensive, creative ideas.
