This is the sensor the monitors water temperature for the onboard computer (ECU), temperature gauge, fuel temperature and fan switch control. Brand new part and is calibrated to factory specifications.
If this sensor fails, you will have inaccurate temperature gauge and you can experience poor performance. Hard idling, rough starts, and poor warm engine performance are all symptoms of a failed sensor.
