| Variation | Thickness | Surface | Gloves | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6 mm Foil-Faced (with gloves) | 6 mm / 0.24 in | Aluminum foil single-sided facing | 1 pair heat-resistant gloves included | Radiant heat: turbo, downpipe, firewall, hood liner |
| 10 mm Plain White (no foil) | 10 mm / 0.39 in | White ceramic fiber, no facing | Gloves not included | Soak-through heat: exhaust wrap, muffler, transmission tunnel, shop use |
Specs (Both Variations)
- Sheet size: cut-to-size with scissors or a sharp knife
- Continuous service temperature: about 2100°F (1150°C), melt point above 2300°F (1260°C)
- Core: white aluminosilicate ceramic fiber, low thermal conductivity
- 6 mm variation adds a single-sided aluminum foil facing that reflects radiant heat instead of just absorbing it
- Flexible and compressible: wraps pipes, lays flat under hood liners, or stuffs into cavities
Fits / Great For
- Engine bay: firewall insulation, hood liner, turbo and downpipe heat shield, intake air charge cooling
- Exhaust: muffler and catalytic converter wrap zones, transmission tunnel protection, floor pan heat
- Truck, Jeep, off-road, RV, marine: generator bays, battery boxes, cab insulation layers
- Workshop: kiln and forge ambient insulation, soldering and welding mats, grill and smoker insulation
10 mm or 6 mm Foil — How to Choose
The 10 mm plain blanket is the pure insulator: thickest mass for soaking up conducted heat, best where you can wrap or stuff it — exhaust pipes, tunnels, shop equipment. The 6 mm foil-faced sheet is thinner and rigid-friendly: the foil reflects radiant heat away from paint, wiring, hood liners and plastics, which makes it the pick for firewalls, turbo shields and hood insulation where appearance and radiant blocking matter. Many customers run both — foil where it faces the cabin, plain where it wraps the pipe.
Installation Notes
- 1. Measure and cut with scissors; cut outdoors or over a drop cloth — first cut releases fibers.
- 2. Attach with stainless wire, mechanical fasteners or high-temp adhesive; never rely on tape alone near exhaust.
- 3. Keep the foil side facing the heat source for radiant control; leave a small air gap for best results.
