Philip Glass – North Star – 12" Vinyl LP – 1977 – Virgin V 2086 – NM

A fascinating experimental electronic and minimalist classical album by acclaimed American composer Philip Glass, one of the most influential figures in contemporary classical music and the development of musical minimalism.

Originally released in 1977, North Star features music composed by Philip Glass for the documentary film of the same name, directed by François de Menil and Barbara Rose, exploring the work of sculptor Mark di Suvero.

The album showcases Glass's distinctive minimalist compositions, combining repetitive melodic patterns, hypnotic rhythmic structures, electronic keyboards, synthesizers, and layered instrumental arrangements.

North Star represents an important period in Philip Glass's musical development, when his pioneering minimalist techniques were gaining international recognition. The compositions demonstrate his innovative approach to repetition, harmonic progression, and atmospheric soundscapes.

This vintage 1977 Virgin Records release features the distinctive green Virgin labels with the classic twin-figure logo and the original cosmic-themed cover artwork.
