Item Description
Up for sale is a stunning, highly dimensional hand-built studio art pottery "nest" or basket bowl by acclaimed regional ceramicist Sylvia Fugmann Brongo. Beautifully preserved, this sculptural centerpiece was acquired from a prominent, eclectic estate collection in the historic Rochester suburb of Pittsford, New York.
This unique bowl is painstakingly constructed using a slab-built and overlapping coil method. The clay strands mimic a woven, organic lattice structure that terminates in a beautifully jagged, undulating natural rim. The interior and exterior are finished in a spectacular speckled periwinkle or powder-blue glaze that pools deeply into the crevices to create rich, indigo-navy shadows. The unglazed bottom showcases a beautiful, toasted-buff stoneware body.
The bottom base is clearly hand-incised with the artist's full signature: "Sylvia Fugmann Brongo". This highly textural, sculptural piece makes a dramatic statement bowl for an Organic Modern, Mid-Century, or Eclectic interior design scheme.
Condition & Care
- Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The ceramic lattice is structurally pristine, completely free of chips, cracks, structural breaks, or repairs. The multi-tonal blue glaze remains vibrant and glossy.
