Sardanapalus's Dream from  Byron's tragedy  1821.

Painting depicting a mythological / Literary scene, a gentleman in a white robe and cap encountering a winged  dragon creature.

Original postscript  details inside the lid , including a royal endorsement, patronised by HRH the Duke of Sussex and Prince.

Very good antique condition, tiny chip on the rim and some gentle wear with age and use.
