Description:The Pioneer PL‑518 is a late‑1970s 2‑speed, quartz locked direct‑drive turntable known for its audiophile S‑shaped tonearm, auto‑return convenience, and high‑stability DC servo motor, making it one of the most reliable and well‑regarded vintage decks in its class. Motor and Performance: The turntable uses a16‑pole, 24‑slot DC servo motor, the same unit found in the higher‑end PL‑540. Key performance characteristics include:Wow & flutter: 0.03% or lessRumble: 73 dBSpeeds: 33⅓ and 45 rpm, with ±2% pitch controlThe motor’s strong magnetic circuit and doubled switching frequency improve torque stability and speed accuracy. Refurbishments & Upgrades:All internal & external working parts have been properly cleaned, re-wired, serviced, polished, oiled, greased & set up where appropriate - all are in fully working condition. The only negative being - the aluminium control panel has some age related oxidisation, this is common, not too noticeable but worth mentioning (see pics). The turntable plays smoothly & keeps rock steady speeds. Everything functions as it should. The plinth has been fully stripped of the nasty plastic coating and expertly re-veneered using real Sicilian Walnut. It has been lightly sanded and treated with Danish oil, it has a lovely wood grain and colour - it now looks stunning. The original Tonearm & Headshell are in fully working condition. Fully functional with anti-skate, arm clip/rest, lift/lower device & adjustable weight. The tonearm is fitted with a New AT-VN95E cartridge. Widely regarded as a top budget MM cartridge & an excellent match with this vintage tonearm/deck. Set up correctly using Baerwald geometry. (I'm happy to sell without the cartridge - message me for a revised price). The original phono cable has brand new high quality gold plated RCA connectors fitted. I fitted a brand new dust cover and hinges, sets the deck off perfectly. Original platter mat included + a new pure leather mat. 2 Metre U.K. Power is also cable included.
