Boy Scout Black Dog Studio Portrait Postcard c1910s Photo
This is a silver gelatin photograph that is unmounted and is 5½ x 3½ inches (139x88mm).
It shows a Boy Scout standing in a photographer's studio beside a large black long-haired dog. The dog stands on the floor to the left, facing the camera. Behind them is a painted backdrop of landscape and sky, with a plant in a pot on a tall stand and a white wooden fence or gate used as a studio prop. The boy holds a long Scout staff, and the image is printed sideways relative to the layout of the postcard back.
The reverse has the printed heading 'Post Card' with 'Correspondence' and 'Address Only' on either side of a short dividing line, and the printed reference 'G90' at the top right. Faint pencil marks near the top right edge are not legible.
This photograph comes from a privately curated collection assembled over more than fifty years by an experienced collector. The images were individually sourced from galleries, dealers, auctions, and other collections, with a consistent focus on strong composition, atmosphere, and historical interest.
Each photograph offered has been selected on its own merits from that wider collection. The result is a group of images that are both individually compelling and part of a coherent, carefully built body of work. For collectors, this offers an opportunity to acquire material selected by a discerning eye, whether to strengthen an existing collection or to begin a new one.
This collection is being dispersed in stages, with several hundred additional photographs being listed each month.
