Wotton-Under-Edge Church Street Horse Carts Gloucestershire Frith c1900s Photo
This is an albumen photograph that is unmounted and is 8½ x 6 inches (217x153mm).
It shows Church Street in Wotton-under-Edge, looking down a broad unmade road lined with stone buildings, with a wooded hill rising beyond the rooftops. On the right is a long row of steep gabled buildings with stone-mullioned windows, tall chimneys and a small domed cupola topped by a weathervane. On the left are shop fronts and houses with hanging signs, one of them an inn sign whose lettering is not clearly legible. Two horse-drawn carts loaded with sacks stand in the street with a dog nearby, a further cart is visible beyond, and several adults and a group of children stand along the pavements and in the road. The negative caption along the lower edge reads '46308. Wotton-under-Edge, Church St. F.F.&Co.'
