Coils

Clayton Eshleman · 1st Edition · Black Sparrow Press, Los Angeles, 1973

Clayton Eshleman (1935 to 2021) was an American poet, translator and editor, best known for his translations of César Vallejo, which won the National Book Award for Translation, and for his long engagement with the cave paintings of the Paleolithic and the origins of the imagination. Coils, his second collection with Black Sparrow Press, gathers poems of myth, the body and the psyche from the early 1970s.

This is the first edition, in the trade issue in letterpress-printed paper wrappers. Black Sparrow also issued a numbered hardcover edition signed by the author; this is not one of those copies.
