This is a rare 19th C. Staffordshire Organ Grinder Figure with Monkey • (A traditional traveling street musician playing a barrel organ with a small trained pet monkey wearing a skirt perched on top).
Produced by pottery studios in Staffordshire, England during the mid-to-late 1800s..
This fine, crisply modelled 19th Century genuine Staffordshire figure of an organ grinder and dressed up monkey is in overall excellent condition.
There is only slight typical wear to the enamel, a small crack in green piece on the gentleman’s left hand side ,slight bubbling of paint on his hat top -no restorations. Although as is to be expected the piece also does have light overall crazing.See photos.
A grand figure measuring a tall 15" high, this is a fine very rare example of quality Staffordshire earthenware. And a historical commemoration of a moment in British history long gone!
