Here we have a set of HO Bachmann Trains Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends 58802 & 58818 Diesel & Grumpy Diesel. Diesel is a devious black diesel-electric shunter with 6 wheels, nicknamed ‘Devious Diesel’ or ‘Devilish Diesel’ for his scheming ways. Diesel was the first diesel engine to arrive on the Island of Sodor. Diesel got in an argument with Duck, and then told lies about Duck to get him in trouble. Diesel is scheming, grumpy, and thinks very highly of himself for being a modern diesel locomotive, and has an intense rivalry with the steam engine, aka steamies. Deep down, Diesel does have some good in him, but he rarely shows it. Besides, every good story needs a villain don’t you think?
Devious Diesel is based on the British Railways Class 08 diesel-electric shunter, the most successful shunting locomotive in the world. With 996 built, Diesel here is actually the brother of fellow Class 08’s ‘Arry, Bert, Paxton (who have or have had Bachmann HO models available) Sidney, (who will be having a Bachmann HO model released soon) Splatter, and Dodge.
There are currently 2 different versions of HO/OO Bachmann Devious Diesel available: 58802 with the smiling face and 58818 with the Grumpy face. In addition, Bachmann HO scale Thomas models are compatible with UK OO Hornby models, due to them having similar couplings. This is a great chance to get both versions of Devious Diesel at the same time!
The items are in excellent used condition, with all buffers and couplings intact. They do run rather slowly, but this is the case with all of the Bachmann HO Class 08 models. This is actually accurate to their basis, as in real life Class 08 only have a top speed of 15-20 miles per hour (mph).
