Description

Antique Charles Goodall & Son Ltd. Bezique / Rubicon Bezique boxed card set, dating from the early 20th century and believed to be circa 1911.

A lovely old Goodall set comprising four Bezique card packs, four original scoring markers/counters, two gilt-lettered card cases marked “Rubicon Bezique” and “Bezique”, period rule booklets and the original fitted burgundy box.

I'm not a professional dealer in games so please check the pictures - I do believe the card sets are complete but please ask any quetsions.

The Bezique cards run from 7 through to Ace in all four suits, with the repeated packs required for Bezique/Rubicon Bezique. There are also Joker/extra cards as shown in the photographs.

Approximately half of the cards are very clean and bright for their age. The other half have clearly seen considerably more use and show some dirt, discolouration and general wear. A couple of cards have creased and/or missing corners.

The four Goodall scoring markers/counters are very clean, bright and attractive, retaining their brass rotating pointers. They have decorative printed Rubicon Bezique score tables to the reverse.

The period instruction/rule booklets are also very clean and bright for their age and have gilt-edged pages. They include rules for Bezique and Rubicon Bezique and contain some wonderful period Goodall advertising.

The fitted outer box is a little worn cosmetically, with some age-related rubbing and wear, particularly around the edges and corners, but is otherwise sound. The brass-coloured fastening/lock is present but does not hold closed. The interior remains attractive with its burgundy lining and fitted compartments.

Please see all photographs carefully for condition as they form an important part of the description. Please do ask any questions before bidding or buying and I will be happy to help.
