Lady Oracle

Margaret Atwood · Signed and Inscribed · 1st Edition, 1st Printing · McClelland and Stewart, Toronto, 1976

Margaret Atwood's third novel follows Joan Foster, who leads a double life as a celebrated poet and the secret author of costume gothic romances. As her past as an overweight child, her affairs and her hidden career threaten to collide, she fakes her own death and flees to Italy, only to find that her own life has begun to resemble one of her plots. Part parody of the gothic romance and part portrait of a woman inventing herself, it remains one of Atwood's sharpest and funniest novels.

This is the Canadian first edition, first printing, published by McClelland and Stewart in Toronto in 1976 and printed and bound in Canada, signed and inscribed by Margaret Atwood on the title page. The dust jacket carries Paul Bacon's illustration on the front panel and a portrait of Atwood by Graeme Gibson on the rear.
