Overview
Up for auction/sale is a spectacular, 100% authentic vintage Standard Oil Company airport windsock. This is a rare, full-sized crossover piece of aviation and petroliana history. While smaller marina or promotional versions exist, this massive 7-foot+ example was built for active airfield duty to guide pilots while advertising one of America's most iconic oil brands. Fabric advertising items from this era rarely survived the elements, making an intact, full-sized canvas windsock an incredibly difficult find for serious collectors today.
Condition Report
- Canvas Integrity: Outstanding structurally. There are NO rips, holes, tears, or dry rot anywhere in the canvas. The seams, stitching, and structural edges remain completely intact and stable.
- Lettering: The iconic red "STANDARD" block lettering is incredibly vibrant with excellent color retention and minimal paint loss. It displays perfectly from both sides.
- Patina & Cleaning: The piece shows an authentic, honest "barn find" weathered patina. There is surface dirt and light staining throughout from historical airfield exposure. It has NOT been chemically cleaned or washed, leaving the choice of conservation entirely up to the new owner. A careful, proper cleaning will easily elevate this piece to a top-tier display item.
Display Potential
With a flat mouth width of 29 inches, this fits a standard vintage 28-to-30-inch rotating airfield ring hoop. It is perfect for hanging flat as a massive garage banner, mounting on a custom wall frame, or displaying suspended in a hangar or large collection room.
Item will be carefully rolled and shipped with full insurance and tracking to ensure safe arrival. Good Luck and thank you for looking!
