Billing Boats' updated Monterey Mediterranean Edition adds lobster fishing equipment and a revised colour scheme to the classic Monterey design, creating a detailed 1/20 scale wooden model measuring 49cm long.

 

ABOUT THE KIT:

The Monterey represents the type of small fishing vessel whose roots can be traced to Italian fishing communities. Boats of this style became particularly associated with California, where Italian immigrant fishermen adapted traditional Mediterranean designs to suit their new fishing grounds.

This Mediterranean Edition is an upgraded version of Billing Boats' original Monterey kit. Additional components have been added, including lobster traps and miniature lobsters, while the colour scheme has been altered to better reflect the appearance of traditional fishing vessels found around the Mediterranean.

Constructed at an impressive 1/20 scale, the model features a wooden hull and plenty of characterful working-boat detail. The finished model measures 490mm long, 150mm wide and 210mm high, making it a substantial display piece without requiring the space of a large sailing ship.

Billing Boats rates the Monterey Mediterranean Edition as suitable for the Advanced Beginner, making it an excellent progression for modellers who have already completed simpler wooden boat kits and are ready to develop their skills further.

HISTORY:

The Monterey is representative of the small fishing boats associated with Italian fishing communities that settled on the Californian coast.
