Hi everyone, I’m in the process of summer cleaning so I’m letting a lot of my flute collection out in the world. Send me a message if you’re looking for something.
Here is a TENSEI Line restored, repaired, rebirth 1.8 length Japanese shakuhachi in D. It is a circa 1950’s Kinko Ryu (lineage, stream). I collected it in 2014 in Tokyo on my last shakuhachi research grant. This is a great example of a fine classical pre-war Kinko Ryu instrument. It is perfect for a Kinko player interested in the tonal quality and response of a flute from what many consider to be the golden age of Kinko music. It’s also great for a beginner who needs a fully functional traditionally hand-crafted bamboo shakuhachi. It’s a dense hefty and fat piece of bamboo like the 1940’s pre-war flutes.
When I first collected it, the joint was loose and had some a chipped utaguchi inlay, minor wear at the top interior, loose joint and crack along the side of the top section. Since then, everything has been gently restored in my low-impact approach honoring the work of the original craftsman with minimal invasive work. It is an intermediate level with all advance fingers working for traditional shakuhachi music. It is relatively easy and in tune with Western A=440hz. This flute can be played in ensemble music situations with fixed-pitch instruments such as a piano. Aside from musical applications, is great for solo playing alone a meditative experience. Non musical folks will enjoy the infinite tonal possibilities. It has a bright lively tone found in well-made medium bore instruments.
Please ask questions as shakuhachi are like people- some you don’t quite get along with, others you fall in love with.
Comes with a Yung Flutes leather utaguchi cap, tsuyutoshi bore swab cloth and plastic storage sleeve to prevent cracks.
And 100% technical support should the instrument ever need servicing.
Please note the shipping is actual cost calculated through eBay. USPS has been slow lately but they have never lost a flute in my over 30 years of shipping shakuhachi world- wide.
As with all my instruments, there is an audition period and full refund or exchange if it’s not a good fit for any reason. It’s the best guarantee I can offer.
I have received numerous grants to study shakuhachi crafting and playing in Japan. My main teacher is Kinya Sogawa in the style of Yokoyama Katsuya and his teacher Watazumi. You can visit my yungflutes site for more biographical information and plenty information on fine traditional restoration and repair. If you have a questionable flute or fine instrument with issues, I can make it work for you. Please feel free to ask any questions anytime.
