A beautiful, rare piece of Scottish social history from the famous 1938 Empire Exhibition held in Glasgow. This 12-piece cocktail set was originally retailed by the high-end Glasgow department store McDonalds Ltd and comes complete with its original commemorative presentation box featuring the iconic red lion exhibition branding.
The set is beautifully crafted from crisp cream/white linen with scalloped blue-embroidered borders. Each piece features a charming, hand-embroidered colourful rooster motif.
The set is complete with 6 square cocktail napkins and 6 round glass coasters. The embroidery remains vibrant and intact. Please note there are some visible age-related brown spots (foxing/staining) on a few of the pieces, particularly on the coasters, as shown in the photographs. These have been left entirely untouched and unwashed in their original state.
The original cardboard box is included. It shows age-related wear, including some creasing, scuffing, and minor crushing, but the historic graphics and McDonalds retail stamp remain fully legible.A wonderful find for collectors of vintage textiles, Art Deco ephemera, or Glasgow history.
