This is a silver gelatin photograph that is unmounted and is approximately 9½ x 7 inches (240x180mm).

It shows a white service vehicle driving through significant floodwater on a road adjacent to a large airport building. The water is deep enough to create a spray around the wheels as the van moves forward. Several other parked vans are visible in the background along the building's loading bay area.

The reverse has a green typed caption slip titled "Heathrow floods" dated "August 6th 1981". The text reads: "a flooded service road at london's heathrow airport today after violent storms in the area. three airport workers were struck by lightning, but they were not seriously hurt." It bears a "Press association photos" credit and a "Tv Times Picture Library" stamp.
