OVERVIEW

It lives under the space bar.
That is the idea, and it came from a keyboard enthusiast rather than from a
mouse company. Nape began as a personal project by Koichiro Tsunafuji, an
editor at Gizmodo Japan, and Keychron turned it into a product. Tom's
Hardware named it Best Mouse at CES 2026.
The problem it solves is the reach. Every time a hand leaves the keyboard
for a mouse, it travels, finds the mouse, and travels back. On a keyboard-
heavy day that is thousands of trips.
Nape Pro sits directly below the keyboard, or beside it, and works like a
trackpad. The thumb moves the ball; the fingers stay near home row.
OctaShift lets it be placed in eight orientations at 45-degree steps, so it
suits left or right hands, below or beside the keyboard, and split layouts.
A 25 mm ball, PixArt PAW3222 sensor, 400 to 4000 DPI, 1000 Hz polling.
Six silent buttons and a programmable control dial. Huano silent
microswitches rated for 20 million clicks.
Everything is remappable in Keychron Launcher - a browser app, nothing to
install - built on ZMK, the open-source firmware. Up to seven layers.
Settings are stored on the device, so they follow it between computers.
Three connections: 2.4 GHz, Bluetooth 5.3, and USB-C wired.
Up to 50 hours per charge, about 2 hours to charge, over USB-C.

THERE IS A LEARNING CURVE
Keychron say so themselves, and reviewers agree.
A 25 mm ball is small, and a device used below the keyboard is a different
movement from any mouse. Expect a period of adjustment before it becomes
faster than what you had.
IT SUITS: keyboard-heavy work where reaching
for a mouse is the interruption.
IT DOES NOT SUIT: anyone wanting a large-ball
trackball's smooth, precise glide, or a
palm-rest ergonomic shape.
LAUNCHER WORKS OVER WIRED OR 2.4 GHz
Keychron Launcher configures the device in current Chrome, Opera or Edge.
Configuration is over the wired or 2.4 GHz connection, not Bluetooth.
CLEAN THE BALL PERIODICALLY
Skin oils and dust collect on the ball and its supports and make the pointer
jerky. Remove the ball and wipe the ball and supports.
