19thC Tyrolean Carved Polychrome Wood Hussar Horse Figure

A striking & large 19th century Austrian, probably North Tyrolean carved and polychrome painted wood equestrian figure, depicting a moustachioed Hungarian Hussar on horseback, circa 1840 - 1870.

The rider wears characteristic hussar dress, including a tall fur Kutsma / Kalpak with hanging bag, braided military jacket, boots and cloak, and sits upon a dramatically posed horse with raised foreleg. The horse retains its richly coloured saddlecloth and large oval saddle or pistol pouch, with surviving original-looking red, green, black and ochre/gilt decoration throughout.

CONDITION Good antique condition overall. The horse has a loss to one ear, and the original reins and one stirrup are absent. There are further scattered knocks, rubbing, paint losses and old surface wear - as per images

The overall condition is as you would expect from an object of substantial age that has been displayed/handled/used, usually over the lifetimes of several owners.
