The reverse of the photograph has a typed press caption from the Press Association, dated December 9th, 1978. The caption identifies the vessel as the expedition ship for "Operation Drake," a two-year circumnavigation of the world with a crew of young explorers from different countries.

The voyage was planned to link a series of land-based expeditions in locations including Panama, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, and the Red Sea. The caption states that the journey would consist of nine three-month phases, with 24 young people participating in each phase.
