A rare vintage Nippon Kogaku (Nikon) Model H portable microscope, Serial No. 44508, believed to have been manufactured in the late 1960s.
This is a particularly interesting custom configuration incorporating several rare Carl Zeiss optical and measuring accessories, allowing the compact Model H to be used for polarizing observation and microscopic measurement.
The microscope and accessories have been carefully stored and remain in beautiful condition.

The microscope operates properly with no known functional problems.
This special setup incorporates a Carl Zeiss goniometer, together with an analyzer and polarizer, allowing the Model H to be used for polarized-light observation.
Polarizing microscope configuration:
Carl Zeiss goniometer – yellow arrow.
Analyzer and polarizer:
Analyzer – yellow arrow.
The analyzer is positioned on top of the goniometer.
Polarizer – yellow arrow.
The polarizer is positioned over the opening beneath the mirror.
During polarized-light observation, the analyzer (red arrow) or goniometer (yellow arrow) can be rotated to alter the polarization orientation.

The upper-left image shows the specimen under bright-field illumination, while the other images show it under polarized-light observation.
The microscope is also shown fitted with a Carl Zeiss micrometer.
The micrometer scale is read through the magnifying viewer. Measurements can be made by rotating the adjustment dial.
Several additional optical elements have been specially installed inside the Carl Zeiss micrometer assembly to achieve proper focus with this Model H microscope.
