Petersburg is the major modernist novel by Russian Symbolist writer Andrei Bely. Set in St. Petersburg during the revolutionary turmoil of 1905, the novel follows Senator Apollon Ableukhov and his son Nikolai amid political conspiracy, terrorism and psychological conflict. Bely's experimental use of language, imagery, symbolism and narrative form established Petersburg as an important work of Russian modernist literature.
