The tool rest crossbar is the horizontal part at the top of the tool rest, the part your cutting tool sits on.
The flat platform is useful for supporting tools flat. It is especially useful when working on boxes or hollow forms, where tools like scrapers need stable, consistent support.
It can be paired with any compatible tool post, and simply screws on to the top. Spanner flats are included to aid fast removal of the crossbar. You can also use a hex key in the bottom end, instead of a spanner.
A locking collar is provided with the stems, which can be used to ensure the tool post returns to the same height in the banjo when you adjust the angle of the crossbar. Particularly useful for bowl turners.
The modular tool rest range is a 2 part system. Any crossbar can be paired with any stem. You can use one stem on your lathe and just change the crossbar to a different type when needed.
